Calm after the storm

It came another big storm here in Suwanee again this afternoon. Our flowers and plants are thanking God for the rain right now! After the storm passed, I looked out our bedroom window and saw the biggest and most beautiful rainbow I have ever seen. We could see it from the beginning to the end. As we stood looking at its beauty, another one began to appear behind it! It truly was amazing! A few minutes later, the rainbow faded and the sky turned a wicked yellow color. That is when I grabbed my camera to take the picture of the flag. With the 4th of July right around the corner, I couldn't resist posting this picture! Matt has always been amazed (sometimes even obsessed) with the weather, but tonight it truly amazed me too!

OH MY GOODNESS!

Okay, so we live in a townhome, so of course we are up close and personal with our neighbors. We hear each other outside walking the dogs, we hear each other when we pull into our driveways, we see each other every time we walk outside. We're cool with that! Here is what I am not down with.....we have a man that lives across the street who does not like to close his blinds (including the blinds in his bathroom!) On several occasions, I have been outside at night watering my roses and look up to see him standing NAKED in his bathroom. I don't know if he realizes how many people can actually see him standing there drying himself off like a monkey or if he just really doesn't care! This man can raise his legs up so high it is almost un-human looking. He dries himself off better than anyone I have ever known! I have a really hard time facing him in the daylight hours. I mean, what do you say?

Some of you may have seen on the news a few months ago that Suwanee had a streaker on the loose. Well, that was also in our neighborhood! One of my friends that I teach with was the one who called the cops on him! They finally caught him a few weeks later. Maybe there is something about Suwanee Station that says "It's okay, go ahead and show us what you've got!"

An afternoon at the pool

We spent our afternoon swimming at Matt's parents house with our nieces, Anna and Cate, Matt's sister Cathy, and his parents. Anna and Cate are Cathy's adorable girls! They make such a cute pair! Anna is 4 1/2 and Cate is 1 1/2. Anna swims like a fish in the pool and the amazing thing is that she learned to swim on her own last summer! Other than the water being freezing cold, it was a great way to spend a hot summer afternoon!

Flower Garden

I have become quite a fan of my flower garden this summer. We spend a lot of our evenings pruning our roses, picking deadheads, and pulling up weeds in our flowers (what an exciting life, huh?). It is relaxing and like therapy to me! I know, I'm a dork! Here are just a few of the plants that we have growing in our yard this summer!

Our "Stay"cation

We just got back from camping on Lake Lanier for the past 3 nights (and yes, those are camo sheets!!) Matt and I LOVE to camp and it is a super cheap get away! Camping with us is always eventful! Within the first hour that we were there, Matt had already gotten to practice his fire fighting skills. Matt placed tiki torches around the tent pad and lit them. As I was unpacking, I hear Matt yell "FIRE!!" By the time I got to him he had already broken his shovel in half because he was pounding the ground trying to put the fire out. As I started pouring water on the fire, Matt was yelling "Move the cars! It's spreading fast!" The fire investigator (Matt) found the origin of the fire quickly after it was put out. One of the tiki torches had leaned over and started leaking oil and the fire followed the oil down to the ground. It was amazing how fast it did spread as dry as it was! Luckily, we got it put out pretty fast and it didn't burn any of our camping gear!! The rest of our trip wasn't that eventful, but we had a great time! Matt spent a lot of time fishing and I spent a lot of time reading. A big thunderstorm came Saturday night, but our old faithful tent kept us dry!

Our Bad Luck

Matt and I had a lot of bad luck last summer. To start the summer off, Matt was laid off the day after we bought our new boat. Two weeks after buying the boat, I jackknifed the trailer backing it down the boat ramp, and broke the winch off, so we had to dock the boat at a friends house until we got the wich replaced. Later in the summer my jeep suffered a hit and run in front of our house, the next week Matts truck got hit by a box truck in the Bass Pro Shop parking lot. Needless to say, we were hoping for a less eventful summer this year. Unfortunately, the black cloud has followed us! Last Sunday, my Jeep broke down in the Target parking lot. We had to wait 2 hours to have it towed. Then, today Matt was on the lake fishing with some friends on Lake Lanier and the boat motor wouldn't start. Matt had to troll (at about 2 miles an hour) for over 2 hours to get the boat to our friends, Frank and Natasha, house. They have become our safe haven when we are on the lake!! I'm really beginning to think that we need to start wearing helments, because who knows waht may fall out of the sky next!!

Our First Blog!

Okay, so we are new to the blogging world, but I figured since I read about everyone else's lives through their blogs, you could read about ours! Matt is currently in the process of trying out for several different fire departments in the metro Atlanta area, and I am out of school for the summer, so we have a lot of time at home together! Therefore, we have spent most of our summer being lazy on Lake Lanier! (Matt is absolutely obsessed with fishing and I love to lay out in the sun and read a good book, so we are a perfect pair!) I start summer school on Monday, but it is only 3 hours a day Monday-Thursday for 4 weeks, so I can't complain! The life of a teacher is WONDERFUL (especially June and July)!
