NEW YORK CITY

What an AWESOME place!! I absolutely LOVED every minute of my first trip to NYC! I was soooooooo excited to be able to go with Matt's mom and sister this year! We left out on a 6:00 am flight from Atlanta on Friday morning. It was a perfect flight and we were in the city and ready to begin our adventure's by 9:00 in the morning! We dropped our bags off at the hotel and hit the streets.

First stop....Canal Street! Within my first 2 hours, I had expereinced the CRAZY driving, the horns honking, and the NYC SUBWAY!! It was exactly how I would have imagnied it to be! While shopping on Canal Street, we were "invited" into a back room of many different shops to view some knockoff handbags. We walked out of one of the back rooms to find that we had been locked inside the store because the police were coming!! We made the most of every single second we were there. Friday night we went to see the Radio City Rockettes...AWESOME!!!

Saturday morning we headed over to the Fox Studios to see what was going on there. They were getting ready to start filming "The After the Show Show" with Fox and Friends. We were on camera and were served some smoking hot fried turkey!!! It was so yummy! From there, we hit the double decker tour bus to view the "Downtown" part of the city.

Sunday we took the tour bus into the Uptown area and saw Central Park, Harlem, and a whole bunch of museums. Then we took the subway to the World Trade Center Area and then headed back up to Canal Street for some more shopping.

Matt had asked us to buy him something with NYFD on it. I found him a nice NYFD t-shirt which I knew that he would like. His mom got creative and bought him a New York Firefighters Calendar!!! The lady that sold it to us said in her thick NY accent "Those aren't models ladies, those are the real deal!" Each month there is a new firefighter to look at!!! We laughed so hard when she bought it for him! However, Matt didn't think it was as funny as we did! At least I will enjoy it!!

If you have never been to NYC, you need to put it on the very top of your list of places to go! It was absolutely something that you can never truly fathom until you expereince it! Picutres do not do it justice! The crowds, the honking, the incredibly beautiful and historic buildings....it is truly something everyone should experience!

For those of you who actually read my blog, you know that I take a TON of pictures! I took over 250 on this trip, so I had a hard time narrowing down the ones to post. There is a post below this one with more from the trip!!!!

Several shots of the city from way above!

Here we are just killing some time while we were LOCKED inside a shop on Canal Street because the Police were coming!

The Christmas Tree at Rockefellar Center. They were putting the lights on the tree the entire weekened!

CRUMBS....the BEST cupcake bakery EVER!! They had every kind of cupcake you could ever want! Red velvet cupcakes, devils food cupcakes, butterfinger cupcakes, oreo cupcakes, carrot cake cupcakes, plain cupcakes, coconut cupcakes.....I could go on and on! I actually packed some of them in my carry on bag and brought them home with me! The only downfall...they post the calories on EVERYTHING in NYC! That sort of put a damper on the cupcakes!

HEAVENLY!!! The icing was INSIDE the cupcake!!!

Matt's mom with the Fox and Friends crew!

Such a tourist! Riding on the top of the double decker tour bus! We learned quickly that when the say you MUST stay seated, they weren't joking! We were so close to hitting the road signs and traffic lights!!

Canal Street in Chinatown....CRAZINESS!

I was amazed at how HUGE Central Park is!!

Inside of St. Paul's Chapel. This chapel is directly across the street from Ground Zero. When the World Trade Center fell, not a single window was broken or stone displaced on this building! The chapel became a refuge for firefighters, police, and resuce workers during the months after 9/11. I had read about this chapel in a Karen Kingsbury novel and was really wanting to visit in while we were in NYC.

Here are some of the patches that people left after 9/11.

St. Paul's Chapel

One of the new WTC buildings that is already completed.

Right in the middle of these buildings is where the 2 WTC towers once stood.

11 floors of nothing but MACY's!!!! It was HUGE!

Me and Cathy with all of our loot! We ended up with 9 purses, a bunch of shirts, several ornaments, and 1 NYC Firefighters calendar!!

Heading home, sad times!

A Weekend in Ellijay

We found out at the last minute that we were going to be able to go to a friend's river/mountain cabin this weekend in Ellijay. It was really quite nice not knowing that we were going until the last minute because I didn't have time to "plan" anything. We packed our bags and headed out Friday right after work. On our way up there, we realized that we have been in the Ellijay/Blue Ridge area on Halloween/Matt's birthday weekend 4 out of the past 6 years. It was a absolutely the most relaxing weekend that we have had in a really long time. Camping is not even this relaxing. I have to admit, I really enjoyed not having the pop-up trailing behind us on this trip. There was nothing for us to "set up" once we arrived! I also LOVED the fact that we had a bathroom and shower to use!! Don't get my wrong, I LOVE to camp, but it was really nice to stay in a luxiorious cabin!! It rained all day Saturday, so we hung out on the back screen porch overlooking the Cartecay River. Saturday afternoon, Matt's sister and her family came up to join us. We took the kids into Downtown Ellijay to trick-or-treat. They shut down the entire downtown area and everyone just goes from business to business getting candy. We didn't let the rain stop us from having an awesome time! We came home and had some homemade chicken noodle soup and grilled cheese sandwiches and celebrated Matt's birthday (a few days early) with a yummy cookie cake!! I did not want to leave this morning!
